Climbing Camelback Mountain

Scottsdale, AZ

We woke up in the morning and started getting ready for the big hike. We needed hiking shorts, tennis shoes, sunscreen, camelback backpacks, sandwiches, and hiking sticks.  It was the perfect day!  Not too hot and not too cold.  It was about 70 degrees and a little bit sunny.  We all had to squish into one car… Hailey, Alisa and I had to sit in the trunk! At first, we thought Camelback would be much easier, like a dirt trail. From a distance it does not look too challenging, but it is very challenging. When we got there, we noticed that our trail was rated extremely difficult. When we got on the trail it was pretty easy right away, it was just a dirt path winding to some stairs. When we got up the stairs, we noticed there was a cliff we had to climb. There was also a railing and I held on tight with a death grip. When we got on top of the cliff, we noticed it was much steeper than it looked like when we were at the bottom. We did not want to go back down it. Hailey was flying up the mountain. she was the first to the top of the mountain. We all made it to the top!!!  We were the only kids up there. Once we made it to the top, we took a selfie and then ate lunch. We all had sandwiches and chips and water from my Camelback backpack I carried all the way up. We saw a blimp from the golf event, and a drone flew over us.  When we were headed down Hailey and I were in the lead. Then the boys got ahead of us. Dad stayed back with Alisa to go at their own pace, because the rocks were as big as she was (and a lot of them were bigger!).  Then Mom and Hailey stopped to take a break. Aunt Jenny and I kept going. We met up with Brady, Uncle Sean, and Max when we were almost done. Then the five of us finished and waited for Mom, Dad, Alisa, and Hailey. Itwas a very wild hike but super fun!!! It took us 4 hours!

The Fountain

By Brooke

First, we went to dinner at a Mexican restaurant. For dinner I got a cheese quesadilla! After dinner we got some ice cream; I got vanilla with cherries, sprinkles and Oreos. It was amazing!!! Next, we headed over to the fountain! There were no kids in the fountain at all. Two minutes after we finished our ice cream, we took off our socks and shoes and went in the fountain while music was playing. While I was in the fountain, I saw Max trying to dodge part of the fountain, he got SPRAYED in the face!!! It was funny to watch! When we were done in the fountain we were all DRENCHED, except for Hailey.

Disney California Adventure Park

When we were on our way to Disneyland, we stopped at a place called Sharky’s Mexican Grill. The girls and I all got cheese quesadillas; I also made my own Arnold Palmer. Then we drove 25 minutes to Disneyland, then it took us two minutes to find a parking spot. Next, we got out of the car, walked down to the entrance which there was two entrances: one newer one and one more old fashioned. We got to the more old-fashioned entry and then realized we had to get tickets and make a reservation. So, we went to the ticket booth and got tickets which took about 5 minutes, then we decided we’d go in the newer Disneyland because there were some roller coasters we wanted to try. When we first got in there, we thought it wasn’t that busy because at the train stop there weren’t as many people there. I kept saying that the train was more of a newer type of train. We got on it and I was sitting with Max and mom, and then Hailey, Dad and Alisa where on another row of seats. We got there in about a minute or two and it was way busier than at the train stop. It was the middle of the day so it wasn’t as busy as they would usually be later in the day. When we got off the train, we looked at our map and decided where to go. First, we went to the Little Mermaid ride, but it closed right before we got there.  Next, we headed to the Incredicoaster. The boys went on that ride while the girls went to the carousel. We met up after the roller coaster and carousel. Next, we waited like 45 minutes to go on a swinging gondola on a Ferris wheel. When we were rounding down back to the ground on her first lap around the Ferris wheel, we had a huge swing that freaked us out a little bit, but it was fun. Then we went to the jumping jellyfish. They went pretty high. Next, we went to the silly Symphony swings. They went high, so Alisa didn’t really want to come on them. So, my mom and Alisa went to the Inside out and emotional whirlwind. Ironically, Alisa pouted the whole ride because she didn’t get the rainbow-colored hot air balloon.  That really was an emotional whirlwind! Then I went on a take flight. We got a lightning pass, so it went pretty quick; we got to skip a lot of the line. We were in line one, so we were really high! We got to see all around the world and it was really cool. After that I went on the Incredicoaster and it was crazy; there was a loopty loop, and I did my first upside down ever! And better yet it was really fun. Mom and Alisa did not come though because Alisa was not tall enough and Mom did not want to. Mom and Alisa were going to go to The Little Mermaid ride, but it was an hour wait. Alisa met this little girl who had a sickness. The little girl gave her free mini mouse headband, which was very sweet. Mom got a pretzel for her and Alisa to share. We got there after they finished the pretzel then we got two bags of cotton candy for us to share, we had a great dinner at beachcomber then we went home because we were getting tired. We had a lot of fun at Disneyland!

Monterey Bay Aquarium

By Brooke

On Thursday, October 27, we wanted to do something fun, so we went to the aquarium. Sadly, Max was sick, and my dad had to finish work, so it was a girl’s day. I wish the boys came. When we got there, we bought tickets, then we started with going to the sea otters! I got to see my favorite otter named Ivy. She has a white head and the rest of her was grayish brown. Next, we saw like 1,000 tunas. After that we saw so many jellyfish, we even saw baby moon jellies. We even went to an aquarium filled with lots of fish including mahi-mahi and a hammerhead shark, and leopard sharks.

Then we saw penguins and got to go in a glass circle that looks like you could be underwater swimming with the penguins. We also got to touch sea urchin, kelp, decorator crabs, starfish, hermit crabs, and last but not least stingray. There was a little room with an arch of glass that you could go under that water goes on top of you. Well, on top of the glass it felt like you were underneath a waterfall. There was also a dome-like the penguin exhibit that you could go in. We had a lot of fun at the aquarium!

A tornado of fish!

Biking 10 Miles

By Brooke

First, we had to get our bikes from a rental shop.  We chose to have my mom and Hailey on one, my dad and Alisa on another, and Max and I were on our own bikes! Next, we stopped at the hotel to change into sport clothes for biking. When we got back down our bike was stolen!!! Just kidding, but we did have to lock them.  We started our journey to the Golden Gate Bridge. It took effort to get up some steep hills, but we got up them. It took about an hour to get to the bridge. It was smooth on the bridge. We stopped halfway across the bridge and took a picture. It was like 20 minutes to get across the bridge. Then we rode to the ferry in Sausalito. After that we returned the bikes, we ate dinner Scoma’s, a restaurant on a pier.  We got to see a man fileting the fish we were about to eat!  After dinner, we walked to our hotel and then went to sleep.

Before we crossed the bridge.

Fisherman’s Wharf

By Brooke

First, we walked five minutes to get there. Then we went inside and the first thing I noticed was all the fake crabs on the walls. They were all painted and decorated. My favorite was a gold crab with an American flag made of sticky gems! We got two crabs to share, and I also got some pasta. After we paid for the food, we went to the market to get cereal, snack bars, oat milk and some other stuff for the hotel room.

We had a great time at Fisherman’s Wharf!!!!!!
